TEDx is the umbrella over a series of locally-based, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience fostered by the underlying core mission of “ideas worth spreading.” The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized and programmed/coordinated locally. The “x” denotes an independently organized TED event, which gives them a special meaning for the communities in which they are held.
In Wichita, our event is called TEDxICT.
The inaugural TEDxICT will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Wichita Area Technical College at the National Center for Aviation Training at 7pm. An Afterglow Reception will follow. Our confirmed speakers are:
David Neville
Dr. Ravi Pendse
Eric Sexton
Lynn Woolf
Jennifer Wright
Our TEDxICT event will feature live, local speakers with global relevance onstage to spark thoughts, dialogue and connection in a small group setting. After the presentations, TEDxICT attendees and speakers will have an opportunity to mingle and share their thoughts during an Afterglow Reception.
The TED format, a curated suite of brief talks, demonstrations and performances, is a constructive way to present information and to foster communication and understanding between often disparate thinkers. The organization’s commitment to bias-free programming (a strict forbidding of commercial, religious or political agenda) ensures all voices are heard, which we also feel very strongly about. TEDxICT hopes to start a meaningful conversation within the Wichita community that will continue to grow in the coming years.
This TEDxICT event is organized by Casey Eubank, Aharon Hoopes, Kristen Klucas, Kris Schindler, Naomi Shapiro, John Thompson, Shari Wilson.
